Who will succeed Peter Sagan as winner of the Favorite500 this year? Or will Sagan again take the win? On December 31 we will publish the winner, but here are already some interesting statistics on this year's edition.
There are exactly 100 new riders that made it into the top-500. 208 riders, or 41.6% of the riders are retired. Last year a rider needed at least 14 votes to make it into the ranking, this year the limit is 16 votes. 23 riders in the ranking are 23 years or younger, three riders are even 18 years or younger.
Table 1. Voters per nation
Spain had the most voters this year, followed by Belgium and the Netherlands. In total there were votes from 128 different countries, 37 countries had at least 10 voters. It seems voters from Italy seem to prefer riders from their own country the most. Italian voters picked on average 6.1 Italian riders in their Favorite500 list.
Table 2. Average number of riders from own country
Furthermore, there are some interesting statistics on the voters themselves. 53% prefer black socks over white socks. It turns out that for Thomas De Gendt 61% of the voters prefer black socks, which is significantly above average.
