analysis
02 January 2022, by Bert Lip
At the start of each year a lot of points shift from team to team. Which teams landed high scoring riders and what teams have seen points leave their team? We have listed the WorldTour teams by the sum of PCS points per rider, compared to the riders on the 2021 roster for that team. For example, Team UAE contracted 8 riders, amongs who João Almeida (1664 points) and Pascal Ackermann (748 points) of in total 3389 points. They saw 9 riders leaving the team, worth in total 1717 points. The surplus is 1672 points, making them also the team with the highest surplus.

Table 1. Transfer surplus overview for WorldTour teams
We see UAE-Team Emirates at the top of the list where Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team is at the bottom. This also happens to be the teams where top rider João Almeida made a transfer this year. We list the teams with a positive or negative surplus above 1000 in more detail.
Top surplus transfer teams
Four teams have done transfers with a surplus over 1000 points. Besides UAE these are EF-Education Nippo, Jumbo-Visma and Bora-Hansgrohe.

Highest negative surplus teams
The winner of the PCS teams season ranking Quickstep Alpha Vinyl was likely to have a negative transfer surplus, as top riders spread out. Team DSM, much debated already, also sees more points leave than coming. Team Astana contracted 14 new riders worth almost 3000 points, but sees 17 riders leave the team worth 4415 points, resulting in a negative surplus.
