Stage 17 of the 2003 Tour de France marked the 75th time La Grande Boucle had a stage arrival in Bordeaux. The first rider to celebrate a Tour de France stage win in the French city at the Gironde estuary was Swiss rider Charles Laeser in the 4th stage of the first Tour de France in 1903. The 75th arrival in Bordeaux, 100 years later, was won by Servais Knaven after an 18 kilometer solo.
