Start
Key events can be any memorable event, for example an impressive victory but also a major crash, bold solo or anything that makes for sporting memories.
In the 2010 Amstel Gold Race, Spanish team Caisse d'Epargne started with only three riders. Due to an eruption of Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull, an ash cloud covered a big part of Europe, resulting in many airplanes not being able to fly. Therefore, multiple riders could not make their way to the start in Maastricht. The UCI gave the team special permission to start with just three riders, instead of the usual eight.
