Wit less than 1 kilometre to go in the sixth stage of the Tour , Christophe Mengin, Alexandre Vinokourov and Lorenzo Bernucci had a small gap on the peloton. Mengin crashed and Bernucci and Vinokourov could get passed the crash. The first riders of the peloton crashed also. Bernucci won the stage, just before Vinokourov and Robert Förster. among the riders involved in the crash were also former stagewinners this Tour Tom Boonen and Robbie McEwen.
