In 2022's Tour of Flanders Tadej Pogačar showed that he is not only one of the best climbers, GC-specialist and time trialists in the peloton, but he's also a very capable at the cobbled spring classics. The UAE Team Emirates-captain attacked for the first time on the Oude Kwaremont at 54 kilometers from the finish. After another attack on the famous Koppenberg only Mathieu van der Poel and Valentin Madouas were able to follow the Slovenian rider. On the final Oude Kwaremont-ascent Pogacar launched yet another attack, this time only followed by Van der Poel. The two seemed to head to a sprint-a-deux in Oudenaarde, but as the leading duo dropped the pace, chasers Madouas and Dylan van Baarle returned to the front. In the following sprint, Pogacar got cornered in. Van der Poel managed to hold of the upcoming Frenchman and Dutchman and won his second Tour of Flanders-title.
