Key events can be any memorable event, for example an impressive victory but also a major crash, bold solo or anything that makes for sporting memories.
Description
In the stage 2 of the 2003 Paris-Nice, Kazakh rider Andrei Kivilev crashed with 40 kilometer to go. The rider in front of him had a mechanical issue and Kivilev couldn't manage to dodge him. He died the morning after the stage in a hospital in Saint-Etienne. The third stage was neutralized with the remaining Cofidis riders crossing the finish line first.
The incident, and Kivilev's subsequent death, was the trigger for the UCI to implement the compulsory wearing of helmets in all races.
