Los eventos clave pueden ser cualquier acontecimiento memorable, por ejemplo, una victoria impresionante, pero también una gran caída, un atrevido ataque en solitario o cualquier cosa que genere recuerdos deportivos.
Descripción
The Giro's first visit to the Monte Bondone came in stage 18 of the 1956 edition, when 89 riders set out in Merano for a 242 km stage to the top of the mountain, on what would become a grueling day for the peloton. Cold and icy winds accompanied them on the Passo di Costalunga, the Passo Rolle, the Gobbera and the Passo Brocon, but all hell broke loose on the Bondone, when a severe snowstorm decimated the peloton. A frostbitten Charly Gaul crossed the finish line, surrounded by walls of snow and fog, in first place, having attacked on the first climbs on the day. He had an almost eight minute lead on Alessandro Fantini, and twelve minutes over Fiorenzo Magni, who had fractured his shoulder and famously held his handlebar by clenching a tube between his teeth. Only 43 out of 89 starters made it to the finish line. The next day, newspapers headlined "Man pushed to his limits".
