Key events can be any memorable event, for example an impressive victory but also a major crash, bold solo or anything that makes for sporting memories.
Eddy Merckx had won the Tour de France at all his previous five participations and seemed on his way to win for the sixth time in 1975 when a spectator suddenly punched the yellow jersey wearer in his liver a couple kilometers from the finish of the 14th stage at the Puy de Dôme. Merckx later claimed that this incident costed him his sixth Tour de France victory. The stage was won by fellow Belgian Lucien Van Impe, who would win the Tour de France in 1976 .
