Story of the day

Stage 1 of the Tour de France featured multiple attacks from the start, with a 28-rider breakaway forming after the first climb. Rémi Cavagna attempted a solo escape but was caught with 60 km remaining. Intense attacks in the final hour led to a group of six contesting the finish, where Michael Valgren won with a late attack ahead of Andreas Leknessund and Damiano Caruso.
