Origin story
In September 2018, the organisers of both the Dubai Tour (est. 2014) and the Abu Dhabi Tour (est. 2015) announced plans to merge the races, creating the UAE Tour: a longer event incorporating stages from both tours. The first edition of 2019 would mark the first ever WorldTour race in the Middle East.
