Description
At approximately 36 kilometers from the finish in stage 4 of the 2024 Itzulia Basque Country, in the descent after the Olaeta climb, a big crash happened in the front of the peloton. GC leader Primož Roglič was one of the victims, and abandoned the race shortly after. Jonas Vingegaard crashed and sustained a broken collarbone and multiple broken ribs. Remco Evenepoel, second in GC, missed the corner, jumped over a ditch, and fell, breaking his right collarbone and shoulder blade in the process. Amongst others, also Jay Vine, Steff Cras, and Sean Quinn were involved in the crash. The race was neutralised, as not enough ambulances were left to ensure the riders' safety.
