Story of the day
After 200 kilometers, only 35 riders remained in the peloton. Vanderaerden broke a wheel but rejoined just before the slippery Koppenberg, where he impressively rode past walking riders. After joining the leaders, Kuiper launched a solo attack. Vanderaerden chased him down with help from a teammate, attacked again on the Muur van Geraardsbergen, and won solo after 20 kilometers.
